Who he was
Alex's Story.
A son. A brother. A grandson. A friend. And the reason Beyond Alex exists.
Alex was 18 years old when leukemia took his life.
But Alex was so much more than his diagnosis. He was a son, a brother, a grandson, a friend, and someone who was deeply loved by so many people. He had just graduated high school with high honors and was preparing to begin the next chapter of his life. He had been accepted into college and dreamed of becoming a veterinarian.
What he loved
Legos, Star Wars, and a guitar he was shy to share.
Alex loved the things that made him happy. He could spend hours building Legos, loved music and played both guitar and piano, even though he was a little shy about sharing his talent. He loved movies, especially Star Wars, played video games, traveled, discovered new places, and treasured the friendships he made along the way.
He had plans.
He had dreams.
He had so much life ahead of him.
Then everything changed
Then leukemia changed everything.
Cancer doesn't only affect the child who is diagnosed. It changes an entire family. It brings fear, uncertainty, endless appointments, difficult treatments, long hospital stays, and a reality that no parent should ever have to face. And when that child doesn't get to come home, the impact doesn't end. The family is left learning how to live in a world that suddenly feels completely different.
Even in the hospital, Alex was still Alex - still finding ways to play, laugh and be himself.
We created Beyond Alex because Alex's story shouldn't end with his death.His life should continue to mean something
Turning love into action
Every child is more than their cancer.
Through Beyond Alex, we want to turn the love we have for Alex into something that reaches other children and families walking through childhood cancer. Our goal is to provide comfort, encouragement, and moments of happiness during some of the hardest days a family can experience.
From our Alex Boxes for children newly facing a cancer diagnosis, to supporting families along their journey, we want every child to know that they are more than their cancer—and every parent to know they are not alone.
Carrying it forward
He cannot be here to see it. So we will carry it for him.
